Preserving Beatrix Farrand’s Gardens
The Beatrix Farrand Society will host an all-day seminar devoted to the preservation of historic gardens and landscapes designed by Beatrix Farrand on July 27, 2013, at College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Maine. Farrand was renowned for applying her great horticultural expertise to the gardens she designed for the cream of East Coast society. Join fellow gardeners, horticulturists, preservationists and historians for a memorable day on the coast of Maine.
Speakers will discuss the restoration and management of a number of important Farrand gardens and landscapes, including Dumbarton Oaks, Dumbarton Oaks Park, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden, Bellefield, Hill-Stead, and The Farm House. Bill Noble, Director of Preservation Projects at the Garden Conservancy, America’s foremost garden preservation organization, will give a keynote talk.
This event will take place at Gates Auditorium, College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Maine. Following the seminar, join the speakers at a reception at nearby Garland Farm (headquarters of The Beatrix Farrand Society) from 4:30-6:00 pm to enjoy the restored Terrace Garden and view current exhibitions and the Society’s library.
In conjunction with this seminar, the Garden Conservancy will host a Bar Harbor Open Day on Sunday, July 28, 2013, featuring several Farrand gardens. For more details, visit www.gardenconservancy.org.
Advance registration is required for the seminar, and walk-ins cannot be accommodated. For program and registration information, visit www.beatrixfarrandsociety.org/seminar.html
