Join us this Sunday for Dumbarton Oaks Park’s 74th anniversary celebration, occurring at the height of peak bloom in this spring-time wild garden! The special event, running from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., serves as a community, park partnership, and restoration celebration! The Celebration is free; it’s family and children-friendly; and open to everyone. With the goal of fostering deeper appreciation for and understanding of Dumbarton Oaks Park, Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy, and our steadfast community partners, here’s the full schedule for this special day:
A Morning in the Park: Anniversary Stewardship Day 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Be a part of the ongoing restoration of Dumbarton Oaks Park by volunteering. This environmental stewardship volunteer opportunity will involve beautifying the park through various means. Email Scott@dopark.org to register.
Park Reopening Ceremony 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This ceremonial entrance gate reopening will include remarks from dignitaries including Rock Creek Park Superintendent Tara Morrison, Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy President Lindsey Milstein, and others.
Park Celebration Festival 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Enjoy your park and learn more about it through interactive exhibits focused on conservation landscaping and environmental protection; children’s arts ‘n’ crafts activities; and more. Confirmed exhibitors include the Rock Creek Park Division of Interpretation, American Society of Landscape Architects-Potomac Chapter, George Washington University Landscape Design program, Rock Creek Conservancy, British School of Washington, and more.
Wildflower Walk 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Join expert naturalist and Maryland Native Plant Society-D.C. Chapter leader Mary Pat Rowan for a wildflower walk through Dumbarton Oaks Park during the height of spring bloom. Learn to identify and discover the significance of spring ephemerals, blooming trees, and more.
Secret Garden Stroll 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Join historian and Restoration Program Manager Scott Einberger, author of ‘A History of Rock Creek Park: Wilderness and Washington, D.C.’ on a tour of Dumbarton Oaks Park focusing on its historic design and current restoration efforts.
